Laem Chabang to Nong Khai Train on a Trial Run

On September 18, 2026, at the Rail Container Transfer Yard on Port C, Laem Chabang Port, Sriracha District, Chonburi Province, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, presided over the opening ceremony for the trial run of the rail freight transport pilot project, train number 559, on the Laem Chabang – Nong Khai route. Also present in the ceremony were the Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, advisors to the Minister of Transport, the Chairman of the Port Authority of Thailand, executives from the Ministry of Transport, heads of various agencies, executives from the Federation of Thai Industries, executives from the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Prachai Leophairatana, Chief Executive Officer of TPI Polene Public Company Limited.
This trial run is a collaborative model, using a locomotive from TPI Polene Public Company Limited in conjunction with a carriage from the State Railway of Thailand to transport rubber along a strategic route. The Laem Chabang-Nong Khai-Laem Chabang Port pilot project aims to connect cross-border trade networks to southern China via Laos, while also collecting operational data on route patterns, operating costs, and related issues. This data will be used as basis for development of the country's rail freight system.
This pilot project is part of an ongoing effort to promote public-private partnerships in enhancing the role of rail in freight transport, supporting a modal shift from roads to rail. This will improve transport efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and increase the country's competitiveness.
TPI Polene's participation reflects the company's readiness to leverage its transportation and logistics capabilities to contribute to the development of Thailand's rail infrastructure. The shared goal is to create an efficient freight system, connect production with the transportation network, and support long-term economic development. TPI Polene is committed to driving Thailand's rail freight system towards efficient and sustainable logistics.
